SabreSource Real Time Image Guidance System
The SabreSource™ system provides an accurate point of entry and an accurate angle of approach to a deep subcutaneous structure while considerably reducing the radiation exposure experienced by medical professionals, patients, and other operating room personal. This system helps to solve the parallax problem and significantly assists in the performance of fluoroscopically guided procedures. In 1994 and 1995 the FDA issued 3 Health Care advisories warning of radiation burns experienced by patients, as well as, the risk of patient radiation exposure in fluoroscopically guided procedures. The original device (DRTS®) was developed partly as a response to these warnings and because the trend in medical market toward more minimally invasive surgical techniques. SabreSource™ is the “next generation” product. Like its predecessor, the SabreSource™ mounts on a C-Arm fluoroscope, with an FDA accepted claim of accuracy of +/- 1mm at 1 meter and allows the surgeon, anesthesiologist, or interventional radiologist to turn off the x-ray and follow the laser beam to the sub-surface target, substantially reducing patient and OR staff exposure. The laser beam acts as a guide, providing a true axis of entry and an accurate approach angle. Ultimately this may reduce the need for repeated exposures in X-ray based assessments; thus, reducing overall radiation exposure by both the patients and medical professionals. Improving upon the success of the DRTS® platform series with its peer-reviewed and published articles, the new generation SabreSource™ maintains all the accuracy and benefits of the previous system with the ability to handle multiple targets while limiting the need to reposition the Fluoroscope. Ease-of-use features have also been added to enhance the operational use of the device. SabreSource™ vs. DRTS®: Improved Ease, Continued Results
Minimally invasive surgeries for pain and spine surgeries have doubled within the last year due to its known patient (reduced trauma, more rapid recovery) and societal (lower cost, earlier return to work) benefits. However, these surgeries are constantly challenged by three key factors: accuracy of approach of sub-surface targets, minimization of radiation to patient and staff, and ease of use. With the use of MINRAD’s patented real time-image guidance technology the number of minimally invasive surgeries could double. SabreSource™, particularly when used with Light Sabre™ products, may be used in an ever-expanding list of image-guided and minimally invasive surgeries such as:
